Sean Pertwee Counts Himself Out of Ever Being the Doctor

Actor Sean Pertwee, son of Third Doctor Jon Pertwee, has counted himself out of the running to ever play the Doctor himself, saying he could never surpass his father in the role.

Actor Sean Pertwee, son of Third Doctor Jon Pertwee, has counted himself out of the running to ever play the Doctor himself, saying he could never surpass his father in the role.

Pertwee, currently starring as Alfred in Fox’s Gotham, says his father’s boots are too big to fill:

“Too big boots to fill. I could never do that. I’d love to, at some point in my life, do something as an ode to my father and also as an ode to the show. It’s an institution, it something that makes you proud to be British. But how can you top my dad? You can’t. He was my Doctor Who.”

Speaking earlier this year, Sean, who bares a striking resemblance to his father, says it would be an honour to one day portray the Third Doctor on the series:

“It would be an honour, but I think I would be completely terrified, they’re large boots to fill. My dad would have absolutely split his sides if I did that, I’m laughing just thinking of his reaction.”

Gotham returns to Fox next month on Monday, February 29 with the second half of Season 2, viewers in the UK able to see the series on Channel 5 at 10pm starting January 11.
