Pertwee Years, Castrovalva and Logopolis All Released Today

BBC Home Video have released three new titles, the Baker/Davision duology of Castrovalva and Logopolis, plus the Jon Pertwee presented The Pertwee Years.

Logopolis

“I have just dipped into the future. We must be prepared for the worst.”

Haunted by a shadowy watcher, the Doctor’s bound for Logopolis in search of a new chameleon cicuit for the TARDIS, with a dangerous stowaway on board. Now in a new body, and bent on Universe domination, his arch enemy the Master is back with a vengeance. His plan could rock Logopolis, the keystone of life. Could this mean the unravelling of the causal nexus and the end of the Universe itself?

Originally transmitted 28 February - 21 March 1981, this four part adventure marks the end of the Tom Baker era and the Doctor’s fourth regeneration.

Castrovalva

“Recursive Occlusion. Someone’s manipulating Castrovalva. We’re caught in a Space Time trap!”

Can the Doctor’s regeneration really be failing this time? It certainly looks that way as his two assistants Tegan and Nyssa help him recuperate on the tranquil planet of Castrovalva. But are things as peaceful as they seem? What has happened to Adric? What is really going on in Castrovalva? And more importantly, where is the Master?

Originally transmitted 4 - 12 January 1982, this four part adventure marks the beginning of the Peter Davison era for Doctor Who.

The Pertwee Years

Following his first appearance as the Doctor’s third incarnation on 3rd January 1970, Gallifrey’s most famous native was ably played by Jon Pertwee as a suave dandy with a love of gadgetry and a passion for old cars. On this special video, Jon Pertwee recalls the Pertwee years including:

  • His first screen appearance as the Doctor.
  • Episode 7 of INFERNO (1970).
  • A glimpse into the costume and special effects store at BBC Enterprises.
  • The final episode to feature the Master as played by Roger Delgado (1973) from THE FRONTIER IN SPACE.
  • A rare close look at the ‘Whomobile’ from a 1973 episode of Blue Peter.
  • Unique footage of title sequence tests which were never used plus a very different version of the familiar theme music.
  • An excerpt from THE FIVE DOCTORS plus a sneak look in at the Doctor Who celebration held at Longleat, Wiltshire — both of which celebrated the programme’s 20th anniversary.
  • Jon Pertwee’s personal favourite — the final episode of THE DAEMONS (1971).
