Comments made by Russell T’ Davies at a preview screening of Voyage of the Damned have come under something of a backlash after the producer suggested Hitler for the role of the Timelord.

The Daily Post reports that RTD was asked who from history he would like to see play the Doctor, reportedly answering:

“Hitler. He was stern and strong. He would be great.”

While some guests laughed sat the joke, others were allegedly shocked by the remark, with one fan saying:

“Hitler carried out some of the world’s worst atrocities. He ordered the killing of millions of innocent people. I don’t want my kids thinking Hitler and Doctor Who are in any way the same.”

David Tennant chose to decline answering the question.

Not really any way you can follow that in fairness!
