Matt Smith Joins Terminator Genesis Cast, Moffat Speaks on Eccleston Regeneration

Former Eleventh Doctor actor Matt Smith will be joining the cast of Terminator: Genesis according to a report from IGN with other reports indicating Smith has signed for a whole new trilogy from the blockbuster franchise.

Smith, who left the role of the iconic Time Lord late last year, will play “a new character with a strong connection to John Connor” according to the website. Matt Smith will be joined on the initial new film by Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney and the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger, while being directed by Alan Taylor.

Terminator: Genesis is currently scheduled for a July 2015 release.

Steven Moffat meanwhile has spoken out on the half-Eccleston regeneration in The Day of the Doctor and why we didn’t see a full Christopher Eccleston take the place of John Hurt toward the episode’s finale. Speaking in Doctor Who Magazine, the Moff said:

“It was one thing to include him among all the other archive Doctors, as they flew in to save the day - in fact, it would have been disgraceful to have left anyone out - but placing him in that scene might have given the impression he’d actually turned up for filming, which would have been crossing the line. Not taking part in the 50th was a difficult decision for Chris, taken after a lot of thought and with great courtesy, and not respecting his wishes would have been grossly unprofessional and disrespectful to a good man and a great Doctor. Number nine may not have turned up for the celebrations, but there would have been no party without him”

And for anyone who’s really fussed, we’re sure somebody has edited the footage on YouTube by now!
