Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller has said he would love to cast David Tennant in the hit NBC show, despite the former Tenth Doctor not winning the lead according to an article in today’s Metro.
Tennant originally auditioned for the lead role of Hannibal Lecter himself with the role eventually going to the fantastic Mads Mikkelsen, yet Fuller is still eager to work with the Scots actor:
“I’m a huge fan of David Tennant, and we’ve been trying to get him on the show for quite some time. He’s such a spectacular actor. He brings such an effervescence to every performance. I would love to have David on the show. Or just write for David! I would kill and eat somebody to work with David! He’s my favourite Doctor.”
Whether David would affect an American accent however may be open to debate after some fans criticised his endeavours in the U.S. remake of Broadchurch, Gracepoint, according to reports in the Scottish Daily Record.
Reacting to the first trailer for the show, some fans claimed that Tennant’s Californian accent sounded “Canadian”
David said in response:
“If they’re fans of Doctor Who, I didn’t use a Scottish accent in that, either. I used an English accent in that. I think doing different accents is part of the job of acting really. It’s something that I quite enjoy the challenge of. Obviously, it’s something that you take seriously, and you work with dialect coaches to help you, and then you practice until it’s in your bones. It’s part of what actors do. I always like seeing people transforming themselves in whatever way that might be, and a different accent is part of that.”
David will star alongside Anna Gunn, Michael Pena and Nick Nolte in the show broadcasting on Fox from October 2.
