Jenna Coleman will leave Doctor Who after the 2014 Christmas Special according to reports in tomorrow’s press.
The Mirror‘s BBC insider told the paper that the move was a “mutual decision” and “the time is just starting to feel right” with the possibility of a perfect Christmas storyline in place. The source said:
“The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out. By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period.” tweet
The special would bring to a conclusion Jenna’s time on the show as Clara Oswald which began nearly 18 months ago.
“From a Doctor she could sort-of control because he had a crush on her, she’s landed with a Doctor who barely registers that she’s a girl. They’re great friends and all that but she has to be his human interface with everybody else. One of the watchwords we have this year is there are consequences for choosing to live like this. It’s not a fairy-tale – we want to make it feel that these adventures can hurt.” tweet
Jenna first debuted with the series in September 2012 in Asylum of the Daleks as Oswin Oswald, debuting as the Clara we know in March of 2013.
