River Song actress Alex Kingston has hinted that she may yet return to the show, echoing previous statements made by Doctor Who show runner Steven Moffat.
Speaking at Mega-con and as reported by DoctorWhoTV, the actress said:
“All I can say is… spoilers! But what I will say is the sonic screwdriver that I had in Silence in the Library, which had been given to me by the Doctor, is not the sonic screwdriver that has been seen… yet… “I haven’t been told I’m done [on Doctor Who].”
Kingston’s comments follow others made by Steven Moffat previously that suggested there might be a future role for the River Song character alongside Peter Capaldi. Speaking in December of last year, Moffat said:
“Both River Song and Jack Harkness are massive characters in Doctor Who mythology… it’s never, ever closed off.. their returns would have to be seismic, not routine… It’s all about ‘Do you have a story that’s worth it?’ unless you’ve got a story that is absolutely informed and invigorated by their presence, just bringing a character back in an ordinary story won’t do.”
Alex meanwhile believes the new Doctor would offer no surprises for River:
“Well River’s dealt with a lot of Doctor’s faces in the past so I don’t think that it would be a surprise to her.”
