Scottish actor Alan Cumming has revealed that he’s twice been approached to take on the Doctor Who lead role, once during the Russell T. Davies era and once more recently.
Cumming, who is currently starring in The Good Wife, didn’t reveal when exactly he was approached to become the Doctor, but did reveal that discussions he had were with “that lovely Welshman” indicating he was under consideration either for the Ninth Doctor, a role eventually taken by Christopher Eccleston, or the Tenth Doctor, a role taken by David Tennant.
Ninth Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston has given a new interview, stating his regrets at not staying in the role of the Doctor longer and speaking again on the reasoning behind his departure.
Speaking with Raf Epstein on 774 ABC Melbourne’s Drive, Eccleston says the first series of the returning show was both “badly organised and certainly badly produced,” and had it been acknowledged at the time, things would have “turned out differently”.
However, Christopher regrets not staying in the role longer.
