Doctor Who‘s audience fell significantly for last night’s episode, falling from the 4.01 million viewers that watched The Pyramid at the End of the World overnight to 3.01 million for The Lie of the Land, the ratings reflect a 15.0% share of the potential audience.
Doctor Who was under heavy competition from the Britain’s Got Talent Final on ITV and the UEFA Champions League Final featuring Real Madrid and Juventus on BT Sport which was aired free-to-view on YouTube. Britain’s Got Talent also saw a slight fall in ratings from the 8.38 million viewers overnight last week to 8.19m this week, perhaps also taking a hit from the live football.

Doctor Who‘s ratings were not far from other shows on the same evening, the following Casualty (also scheduled against Britain’s Got Talent) receiving 3.21 million viewers.
The episode scored the lowest overnight of the series, which as expected is being led by The Pilot. The final consolidated rating will of course include viewers who watched via catch-up and will bring the final total up by some considerable margin.

While a rating of 3.01 million would mark the lowest ratings in the history of the show, only 1989s Battlefield with 3.65 million coming close, last night’s figure will rise significantly following catch-up views, a medium not available during the Classic Series’ run. However, the ratings do mark the lowest overnight’s since the show’s return to television in 2005, an unwanted record previously held by Oxygen on 3.57 million viewers.

Putting it up against many finales of popular shows is dangerous. But overall viewings don’t count online viewings, which if they did attribute to overall viewings it will probably be about 10 mil+.

It kind of doesn’t make sense Adam Charlton because this series has been so good and much better than the rest of the Moffat era. Maybe because it’s becoming more like Doctor Who again that the fan girls who like the soap opera “love in the Tardis” element of previous series’s don’t like it.

I agree Chelsea Mitchell. And don’t get me wrong, I didn’t like Clara myself BUT I miss her now compared to “Bill”. This season would’ve been better with just Nardole. He clashes with Capaldis personality and makes it hilarious.
Bill looks like a man, not funny and acts terribly.

I don’t enjoy MoffWho but you cannot call it crap. It is carefully plotted and written, with brilliant turns of phrase and aimed to get best from actors.
It’s also not my cup of tea. I thought last night was essentially a rehash of Last of time Lords and Closing Time. I hated the lack of rationale behind the monks. The fake regeneration was obviously teasing us in the trailer.
Yes, many reasons why this vision of Who does not coincide with mine but I really think it’s unfair to say Moffat is a bad writer.

Moffat brought in Capaldi who as an actor has brought in a more classic portrayal of the Doctor with him being a mad old man in a blue box; not a man who goes around and all the girls swoon when he’s around. Capaldi got some of, if not the best, scripts of nuwho. Just look at Heaven Sent, the Zygon two parter, the Under the Lake two parter. If you think he’s that bad you try writing a script that the BBC will accept and the fans will love.

Many people watch BGT, and with a football final most viewers more than likely recorded Doctor Who. Overall viewings never count catch up TV, online streaming or recordings.

Even lower than Battlefield if my memory serves me correct. It was , however, on at the same time as a football cup final and a BGT final: both live TV events. I thought the episode was weaker than some of the others in series 10 but have been enjoying the series overall.

The Monks are stupid. Their simplicity and goofy mouth movements are ridiculous. The stupid soundtrack with the flutes trilling sounds like some slapstick comedy/After School Special aimed at elementary children. Matt Smith did the introspective monologues much better than Peter, and Moffat is just doing formula writing and is clearly out of ideas. If creativity were bus fare, we wouldn’t go 4 blocks on what we’ve been given.
