Peter Davison Speaks on Peter Capaldi, Convention Scene

Fifth Doctor actor Peter Davison has spoken on the casting of Peter Capaldi as the twelth incarnation of the Time Lord, expecting the show to shift in tone come the eighth series next year. Capaldi, 55, will take over the TARDIS at Christmas and Davison thinks it might be a good thing

“I think it’ll change the sort of tone of it slightly, you know he’s obviously a mature doctor.. Matt to me always reminds me of a sort of irrepressible puppy. I think probably Peter will slow it down somewhat and I think that’ll be good for the show… It’ll be more challenging for Steven Moffat to write and therefore I think will be another lease of life for the series.”

Peter is currently in Toronto where he will be attending the Reversed Polarity Convention, a three day event over the Labour weekend attended by Graeme Harper and Dan Starkey (blimey, he gets around!) amongst others. Following that, Davison will be on the road again, heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia for Hal-Con from November 8 to 10 and despite the hard work involved, is looking forward to meeting Doctor Who’s Canadian fans

“They are overwhelming, but they’re very respectful as well.. There are people who go, ‘Oh, crikey, (you) must be working really hard when you do a convention.’ In fact, it is hard work, but you are being told constantly over three days how wonderful you are. So it’s no real great hardship.”
