Comedian Chris Addison, who reprises his role as Seb in the forthcoming Dark Water, has spoken on being reunited with Peter Capaldi following their stint in The Thick of It, watching the new Doctor perform and how the Scot is perfect for the role.
A Doctor Who fan since childhood, Chris jumped at the role when offered:
“Doctor Who is the biggest show in the world so even if you weren’t a fan, of course you want to do it. It’s the one phone call you always want to get. I’ve been a fan of the show since I was a kid, it’s the biggest show in the world so it was wonderful to be asked to be in it. I really think Peter Capaldi is a brilliant Doctor as well.”
Addison was unreserved in his praise for Capaldi, being immensely proud of his former co-star:
“I’ve said for years and years, long before David Tennant, I thought that Peter, for me, would be the perfect Doctor. He’s got a lot of the spirit of the classic Doctor Who about him, where he can be really funny, or he can be terrifying, he can the lord of the universe or he can be an imp. So I think I always knew what kind of doctor he would be. And it’s just exciting to see it there in front of me. I’m so proud of him.”
And for Addison, being reunited with his former Thick of It colleague was “a real treat”:
“I was getting my costume fitted and I heard “Where is he where is he!? and Peter came bounding in, straight from filming as the Doctor. He took me onto the TARDIS and I watched. I sat in one of those canvas chairs that you get on film sets, and watched him be The Doctor - live in front of me. It was absolutely fantastic… a real treat.”
Dark Water airs this Saturday at 8:15pm in the UK on BBC One and BBC HD, and at 9pm ET on BBC America.
