Legendary actor John Hurt has been knighted in the Queen’s New Years Honours List.
Sir John Hurt is best known to Doctor Who fans as the War Doctor, but has had a quite extraordinary 53 year career in the acting profession.
Nominated twice for an Academy Award, alongside winning four BAFTAs and a Golden Globe, Hurt is one of the leading thespians of his generation, noted for his starring roles in the likes of The Elephant Man, 1984, The Naked Civil Servant and I, Claudius, plus cult franchises such as Alien, V for Vendetta, Harry Potter and Doctor Who.
Who luminaries James Corden and Sheridan Smith are also granted OBE’s in the new list.
