Karen Gillan will be joining John Travolta and Ethan Hawke in another new movie this summer, In a Valley of Violence from director Ti West.
Scheduled to shoot this June, the revenge Western will feature Gillan as Ellen alongside Taissa Farmiga as her sister. Together the sisters run a hotel in which Ethan Hawke seeks vengeance for the death of his best friend.
The role is just the latest for Gillan since she left Doctor Who following her starring role in Oculus and Guardians of the Galaxy as well as forthcoming ABC comedy Selfie. Speaking to Total Film, the Scottish actress says her role as Amy Pond has helped her win roles:
“I didn’t really want to distance myself from Doctor Who, because it’s never hindered me, it’s helped me. I know for a fact that I’ve got offered roles because the directors are Doctor Who fans, so it’s not something I’m keen to shed.”
Karen explained how she was cast in Oculus:
“I was in Scotland in my bedroom in my family home, and my agent was like, ‘This American director wants to Skype with you. So I get on Skype with him, and I’m all eager to please, and then he takes a swig of coffee out of a mug that was a Tardis - and he didn’t realise - and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, it’s in the bag…’”
Oculus is released in British cinemas on June 13, while Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on July 31.
