BAFTA Nominations
Doctor Who may have missed out on the main nominations at the BAFTAs this year but will still be up for an award after The Day of the Doctor was nominated for the Radio Times Audience Award, up against Breaking Bad, Broadchurch, Educating Yorkshire, the Great British Bake Off and Googlebox.
In better news, the Mark Gatiss special An Adventure In Space And Time is nominated for the Best Single Drama award against Black Mirror: Be Right Back, Complicit and The Wipers Times. Considering the quality of the performances within the show however, it is something of a surprise that the special is only nominated in the single category.
Karen Gillan’s Doctor Who Return “Surreal”
Karen Gillan has said that her cameo return to the show in the closing moments of The Time of the Doctor were a surreal experience. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly the Amy Pond actress said:
“It was such a surreal experience because those were three very important years of my life on that TV show and then to go back and be on someone else’s TARDIS was a really weird sensation… sort of… on the outside looking in. But also knowing that life is okay after you leave Doctor Who. It was just a really interesting experience and important to me that I was there for Matt’s final moments in character… Everyone was crying! Everyone! Me and Jenna were hugging”
Karen Gillan is currently starring in the movie Oculus which opened in the United States on April 11 and will be in UK cinemas in June.
Sean Pertwee Comments on Relationship Between Peter Capaldi and his Father
Actor Sean Pertwee has revealed Peter Capaldi’s close relationship with his family and endorsed the Scot in the lead role. Speaking to the Radio Times, Pertween said:
“My father was very fond of Peter and Peter is an extremely lovely gentleman. He was very kind to my family when my father passed away, he was a big fan of my dad’s actually. So personally the Pertwee household were absolutely delighted when he got the role of The Doctor. I think he’s going to bring some real gravitas and weight, which only comes with age. Taking nothing away from Matt, who I thought was great, I just think he’s going to be stupendous. He’s going to have a completely different look.”
Pertwee has recently appeared in The Three Musketeers alongside Peter Capaldi and will be next on our screens in Gotham as Alfred Pennyworth.
