Eleventh Doctor actor Matt Smith is to star in the forthcoming adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride, Prejudice and Zombies according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.
The story follows the plot of Pride and Prejudice, but places the novel in an alternative universe version of Regency era England where zombies roam the English countryside. Described as the “stricken”, “sorry stricken”, “undead”, “unmentionables”, or just “zombies”, the deceased ancestors of England are generally viewed by the characters as a troublesome, albeit deadly, nuisance.
Matt will take the role of Mr. Collins, a parson who proposes to Lily James’ character of Liz Bennett.
Co-Starring Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote and Douglas Booth and directed by Burr Steers, the movie begins filming on September 24.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will be released in 2015.
