As Series 9 filming gets underway, the news, rumours and gossip begins to trickle in from the set, as is often the the case many of these titbits are legitimate and many completely bogus (whatever happened to Charles Dance as The Master?!).
Here’s a first early collection of a few of the rumours doing the rounds via varying sources (many of which seem more fan wants than anything else) and of course they should be taken with a pinch of salt and as nothing but the rumours they are until official confirmation from the BBC.
We make no judgment as to the legitimacy of any of the following… believe them at your own risk!
1) Peter Harness will be writing both episodes 3 and 4 of the new series, a welcome return for the two-parter.
2) There will be a “ghost story” during the series, either the aforementioned two-parter or a TARDIS centric episode where the ship itself is haunted!
3) Mark Gatiss has already penned an episode for Series 9, written as a potential Series 8 episode.
4) Toby Whithouse will be writing an episode for the series.
5) Michelle Gomez will return for the series as Missy. The Paternoster Gang and Kate Stewart are expected and a little more out there, the Sea Devils may return to the series.
6) An anniversary minisode has already been filmed.
7) Listen will get a sequel.
8) Shona, as played by Faye Marsay in Last Christmas, will return as a companion during the series.
9) The series will feature the hunt for Gallifrey and the return of the Time Lords.
10) The TARDIS will gain a new “crew member” of sorts: a cat!
One early rumour that seems to have been debunked is a return for the character of Osgood after Missy killed her Zygon replica, not the real thing. Steven Moffat however told Doctor Who Magazine: “Dead, I’m afraid.” The rumours of a return for the Zygons to the series still persist however.
