Plans are afoot to bring Doctor Who, Sherlock, Top Gear and other BBC properties to the new London Paramount Entertainment Resort, scheduled to open in 2020, after the signing of a development agreement between BBC Worldwide and the resort’s organisers.
The London Paramount Entertainment Resort (Paramount London) is a two billion pound project by the Thames estuary in North Kent, an endeavour by London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), that will be the first theme park of it’s kind in the UK, with the project expecting to attract around 15 million visitors a year or 50,000 people per day, the resort being modelled on Disneyland in Paris.
Having already signed a deal with Paramount, LRCH will make full use of a wide range of Paramount properties for the Hollywood-inspired park, with 50 water, family and thrill rides based on blockbuster movies such as Mission Impossible, Star Trek, The Godfather and The Italian Job all spread across several zones, including: Adventure Isle, Land of Legends, Cartoon Circus, Starfleet Command (pictured above), Action Square, Port Paramount and Entertainment City.
Organisers with the project said that the deal with the BBC on top of the one from Paramount will mix “Hollywood glamour with British culture.”
Other proposed features include the largest indoor water park in Europe, a 2,000-seat theatre with regular West End quality shows, 1,000sqm of exhibition space showcasing the best of British inventions and brands, over 11,000 restaurant covers in a variety of food outlets, 15,000sqm of retail space, a plaza area with regular live entertainment, a cinema and comedy venue and hotels totalling 5,000 bedrooms.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to extend fans’ enjoyment of their favourite shows and the idea behind this resort is a really exciting way of celebrating the very special place the BBC has in British culture.”
While there are no firm plans in place as to which programmes would be featured and whether they would appear in lands or rides, David Testa, director of LRCH, seemed hopeful of bringing the Beebs “iconic” characters to the new resort:
“The BBC has played an instrumental role in shaping the British entertainment industry for nearly a century, creating some of the most iconic and cherished characters on TV and radio.”
