50 years… 50! my mother wasn’t even born when Doctor Who started, let alone myself. It has transcended generations and been relevant to age after age when countless other TV shows have gone by the wayside…

So long Star Trek… Bye-Bye X-Files… Whoops, there you go Babylon 5… Yet this one wonderful man, this wanderer in the fourth dimension, this madman with a box comes back time and again… Just as he always promised he would. It is a timeless classic that is, at its core, so simple - the magic man who’ll take you away to see wonderful places, to have amazing adventures. It is the door to Narnia and the Doctor is the Pied Piper, enchanting with his tales, ready to spirit you away to who knows where. He is every Dumbledore and Gandalf rolled into one, older than time itself but with that twinkle of youth in his eyes.

Is it any wonder we have fallen in love with this man?

Doctor Who stands as a classic of fiction, it fully deserves to take a place alongside the likes of Sherlock Holmes as a cultural icon, something to be enjoyed for generations and decades to come. His adventures will go on forever, long after you and I have shuffled off this mortal coil. He is eternal and immortal, as all great characters of fiction are. How can the tales of the Doctor ever end in an infinite universe of possibilities? Rest assured, somewhere, somewhen and by somebody a new tale of the Doctor will be being told. We are all Martha Jones now.

From watching in amazement at The Sea Devils as a child to eagerly rushing for my next copy of Doctor Who Magazine, from wearing out every last Target book in the library to desperately trying to smooth out my churned up VHS of Earthshock, Doctor Who has touched my life for over twenty years. As places and people have come and gone, Doctor Who has remained as constant as time and space itself. You’ve made me furious and angry, but I’ve always forgiven you. I’ve laughed with you and shed a tear, you’ve cheered me up and shocked me in equal measure. It’s been a roller-coaster.

So a big happy birthday to Doctor Who, a moment of memory for those no longer with us and a big hurrah for all those amazing people who’ve helped and struggled to make this show what it is. From Verity Lambert to Steven Moffat, William Hartnell to Matt Smith, Virgin to Big Finish, you individuals have helped cement a legacy that is truly timeless.

On a personal note I can’t believe we’ve only been active as a news source for six weeks now, it’s seems so much longer and it’s been a hell of a ride already. We’ve made a lot of friends and probably a few enemies but we hope that we’ve provided the best service that we possibly can. These are interesting times to be a Doctor Who fan and we believe that Doctor Who fandom deserves the absolute best in news delivery. We’ve made a few mistakes (and more than a few typos) but we hope we’ve both entertained and provided some value to you, our reader.
