Updated: Head of Doctor Who Restoration Team Believes Marco Polo Has Been Found

Restoration Team head honcho and video expert Steve Roberts has stated his belief that Marco Polo has been found by Phil Morris.

Speaking at Gallifrey One as part of Radio Free Skaro’s recent podcast, Roberts said:

“Marco polo is obviously the story that is most likely that Phil will have found just because it was…there were so many copies sold all around the region that he’s been looking at so, you know, it’s my opinion that Phil has definitely found Marco Polo. I have no evidence whatsoever to back that up because I’ve not seen anything, he’s not told me that…he’s not told any of my friends and colleagues that… but I just think that he will have. I mean he hasn’t said.. he hasn’t come out and said I’ve definitely got more Doctor Who but the statements he’s made.. he’s says this is a great time for Doctor Who fans… expect the unexpected. He’s being very positive, you know, he’s definitely got more”

While he again reiterates he has no evidence, Steve seems positive in his belief more episodes will be returned to the BBC in due course:

“He’s not leading anybody on because he’s not that sort of person. But, you know, he will give things back I’m sure when it suits his business, the BBC or whatever when the time is right, you know. I don’t know what his game-plan is… I’m sure he has one.”

Going on to say later in the interview:

“If Phil has got… has found other Doctor Who, you know, he has to monetise his investment at some point and the only way he can do that is through the BBC and I think he has to be careful to walk a fine line between being seen as the hero and being seen as a hoarder and I don’t think he will let himself get in a situation where he will go from hero to zero. So yes, I do expect that if he has got more stuff the general public fully believe he has we will be seeing more of it this coming year.”

However Steve confirms that there are indeed lots of films coming back:

“Phil is so busy…he’s always out of the country looking at other stuff as well. I know he has a team, you know, he’s got employees all over the world now… but yeah it’s a lot of stuff coming back and a lot of stuff that needs work”

In a comment on this very article, Mr Roberts points out:

“There’s some important context missing from the last quote from me there, as it’s actually talking about something I said earlier in the interview that you haven’t quoted. TIEA’s business is in shipping entire archives back to the UK and cataloguing them here rather than in situ. So although there’s “a lot of stuff coming back and a lot of stuff that needs work” it should be understood that most of that “stuff” will be local programming - news reports, docos etc - not missing British TV. Although hopefully some of it might be the latter.”

As a LONG-time fan, this and Power of the Daleks are my two most wanted stories to be returned (obviously I'd be grateful for any, as would most). I really hope it's true! I have listened to this soundtrack so many times (it's great while sunbathing!)

Come on Phil let us know what Doctor Who you have found please! I ( like thousands of others) am trying to be patient, but my patience is now running out. 50th Anniversary of Marco Polo is imminent, let us celebrate with it's return to the archives... Please.
