The Doctor Who comics world and UK comics scene at large lost a true great this past month with the passing of Steve Moore, one of the early pioneers of the Doctor Who Weekly comic strip at the age of 64. Moore penned many classics of the era such as Dragons Claw and Abslom Daak – Dalek Killer.
After beginning to write in his late teens, Moore’s comic work was featured in most of the major British comics by the early 1970s and he was involved with 2000 AD since it’s very inception, notably devising the Future Shocks format for Prog 25 and Tales of Telguuth.
He was one of the primary writers for the Doctor Who comic strip in Doctor Who Weekly’s formative years from 1979, penning The Return of the Daleks for issues 1 through 4 and co-creating the character of Abslom Daak in 1980. His final work for the strip came in 1981 with Spider-God (Issue 52).
Steve Moore’s other work includes Warrior, Hulk, Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. , Hercules and the V for Vendetta movie novelisation.
