DWA received information from a source this past week which gave very definite information as to the missing episode rumours. We cannot reveal the full contents of this information or the source yet we can say that with this information, coupled with what we know from other sources, we feel confident in saying that substantially more episodes have been found. This information points to a single fact, not the whole “truth” of the matter.
However it should be noted that there is certainly an element of disinformation being disseminated by some sections and everything should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Fact: DWA has spoken with Planet 55 Studios in Australia and it has been confirmed to us that The Moonbase will still feature the animated episodes, having been moved in the schedule to make way for Enemy of the World and The Web of Fear. The DVD was originally announced in April of this year and announced delayed in August for all those keeping a note of timelines!

Speculation: Talking of Doctor Who Magazine, a curious fact: The Patrick Troughton Missing Episodes Special Volume 1 had 22 episodes of telesnaps and ended at a very unusual place, just before Evil of the Daleks. Now, if you didn’t expect Web and Enemy to be back, that would have left 32 episodes where telesnaps exist for volume two, 22/32 as opposed to a slightly more even 29/25 if Evil had been in volume one. That makes no publishing sense at all. However, if you expected Web and Enemy back, it would leave 23 for volume 2 alongside the 22 for volume 1.
Everything that follows is a collection of rumours only. As always some are likely true, some are likely false and they may contradict each other. They are from a variety of sources and we pass no comment on their validity.
The Massacre and The Macra Terror will be the next stories to be announced as being recovered.
The third set of releases is already planned and includes The Faceless Ones and The Celestial Toymaker.
Marco Polo is no longer tipped for release. Work on restoration began in June and was scheduled to be completed in September, problems however mean it needs more work than first envisioned.
Marco Polo will be announced in December or January.
Certain factions are furious at the continual leaking of information from the inside and have undertaken a campaign of disinformation to both “smoke out” sources of leaks and both undermine the credibility of those delivering rumours and provoke a fan backlash. There is consideration being given to delaying any announcement until next year.
The Tenth Planet Episode 4 has been found states a source with links to the BFI. There was some consternation over the recent DVD release and some description of contract issues. The same source indicates Web of Fear 3 will be available for the DVD release. The BBC will retain the iTunes/DVD format for all future releases.
A great many duplicates were found alongside missing episodes, these include more complete versions of what is already on DVD and better quality in terms of picture.
The Daleks Masterplan 11 and 12 have been found, recovered from a source in the UK.
The Daleks Masterplan 4 and 7 have been found, recovered from a source in the UK.
Private collectors have gotten wind of the episode discoveries by Phillip Morris and have begun to “cash-in” on what they own.
Power of the Daleks will in fact be released at the end of 2014, not the final release in 2016 as reported previously.
A complete Doctor Who DVD omni-set has already been discussed.
The majority of all recovered episodes need extensive repair work and some may not be recoverable at all. They show extensive signs of decay, Enemy and Web were the only stories able to be released prior to the 50th anniversary. There were unforeseen problems with the restoration of Marco Polo.
Or, a differing source proclaims all the episodes need minimal work beyond The Abominable Snowmen.
The Space Pirates Episode 3 has been found in a separate discovery to those by Phil Morris.
Only Mission to the Unknown, The Daleks Masterplan, The Space Pirates, The Invasion and The Ice Warriors will remain incomplete.
On a non-Who note: Phil Morris’ discoveries include the final missing episodes of Dad’s Army and swathes of Steptoe and Son, Morecambe and Wise, Z-Cars and TOTP featuring the Beatles and much more. More than the alleged 8000 cans.
