Director Justin Molotnikov, who’s worked on series’ as diverse as Merlin, My Parents Are Aliens, Da Vinci’s Demons and Atlantis, has been confirmed as another director for Series 9, directing two episodes of the new series. It’s unknown at this time whether Justin will be directing episodes 9 and 10, rumoured to be from Mark Gatiss, or the season finale from Steven Moffat.

Michelle Gomez, who will return to Doctor Who as Missy during Series 9, has been speaking to Digital Spy meanwhile, talking about her time filming the coming opening two-parter of the series - The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar. Gomez believes that Missy can keep returning and that it was a delight to return to the series:

“Surely [she can come back again]. But methinks she bores easily, so death might be a lot more interesting. Life can be terribly dull for the likes of Missy! She is quite a lady, Steven Moffat writes her beautifully, and so this year I got to have a little fun with her again.”

Whether Gomez’s use of the phrase “got” is an indication that she is done filming on Series 9 and won’t be appearing in the season finale is unknown.

Doctor Who and Michelle Gomez will return this autumn/fall on BBC1 in the UK and BBC America in the United States.
