Jenna Coleman has refused to officially confirm whether she will leave Doctor Who after the 2014 Christmas Special but appears to have hinted that she won’t be appearing as part of Series 9.
Speaking to the Radio Times, Jenna said:
“There’s lots of rumours. We’ve sat down with Steven Moffat and we’ve all decided we don’t want anybody to know which way it’s going. If you know I’m in the next series - or if you know I’m off - you’ll know how the story ends.”
On plans for Christmas and why she can’t be drawn:
“Because there’s a surprise we’ve got coming, it’s much better that nobody knows which way it’s going to go - so that’s where we’re trying to keep it at the moment… that’s all I should probably say.”
And what life has in store for Clara:
“It all becomes rather chaotic, as you can imagine, and that doesn’t work at all - it becomes quite impossible.”
And on when she starts filming Series 9, Jenna seems to have chosen her words carefully…
“They start filming in January.”
Samuel Anderson meanwhile has been speaking to What’s on TV ahead of this Saturday’s Listen, giving us something of a preview of the episode and hinting at major shocks to come.
“We met Danny in episode two and he’s an ex-soldier who has become a maths teacher, and he’s in charge of the Coal Hill School cadets. And he might take quite a fancy to a Miss Clara Oswald. Who wouldn’t? They caught each other’s attention in episode two and by this week’s episode, something has clearly started between them. It’s the first time you see much time between Danny and Clara, the first time you get a measure of their relationship and where it will go… They are both a bit unsure. Clara’s spent the last year running around with a mad scientist, one that she can’t have a relationship with because he’s 2000 years old and an alien. It’s quite funny, it’s a very funny episode. It’s a bit of a rom-com, let’s say.”
Samuel also hints at things to come from Danny Pink:
“Yes, he does go on the TARDIS, but probably not as you might expect. There’s a major surprise about him. It shocked me when I first read it!”
When reminded to the usually grim fate of companion’s partners, Samuel also revealed how many episodes he will feature in this series:
“I know! That, or they turn out to be a hero. It can go either way. It might get worse, it might get better. I’m in for seven episodes.”
